Earth and Pine Series, 2022-2024
The works in this series are hybrid ceramic baskets that fuse 3D printing technology with traditional coil pot techniques and basketry, challenging distinctions between contemporary and ancestral craft practices. By programming technology to mimic hand-coiled construction, these "anti-vessels" defy their functional origins, blurring the line between ceramics and woven basketry and evoking the rhythms of traditional weaving patterns. Earthen clay interwoven with hand-coiled basketry and forged pine needles converge within each piece, embodying the merging of distinct knowledge traditions often divided by colonial boundaries. Each work reflects the harmony and tension between technological innovation and ancestral craft, creating forms that resist classification and gesture toward cosmology and the infinite.
