These ceramic works are made by 3D printing coils of clay in the pattern of woven baskets, then shaping them by hand. Long, loose strings of beads hang from each form, frayed in multiple directions, so the printer’s programmed precision gives way to the irregularity of the hand. They function as a digital compass, breaking their digital origins as an unbounded axis for multidirectional expansion. Each piece mimics specific star patterns from woven textiles as fractals–growing from the base to the top, twisting in motion. They demonstrate how a form or a line can contain multiplicities and suggest analogies and throughlines between traditional forms of making and the boundless borderless.
